About me My story

Final Update: I still want to take as many people as I can onto the plinth and am doing this by relaying messages I have received by e mail and will relay messages I receive by mobile on the day. I will be working with Cancer Research UK to raise awareness of their donate campaign. Less than 24 hours to go and starting to feel nervous. Not worried about feeling foolish on the plinth but more concerned about being mediocre!!

Update: I want to take eveyone I know on to the plinth with me so I've asked them all to e mail me their comments, drawings, sayings, images etc. and I will enlarge them to A2 or A3 and hold them up on the day.I have also become interested in shadows and in particular the shadows we cast throughout our lives. I intend to stand on a sheet of paper and draw around my shadow throughout my hour on the plinth. This will be my "Record of Achievement" for this event.

I haven't yet made up my mind what I plan to do on the plinth. Maybe I will call it "Untitled" for now. There was a time when every Industrialist, Monarch, Explorer or Military man would have had a commemorative statue erected in their honour. Perhaps it was the great sacrifices made by ordinary people in the first World War that showed us that "achievement" is a subjective word.

  • Well done Dave! Keep up the good work.

  • Hi Dave!

Really moved to see you holding my Dad's name above the crowds in Trafalgar Square today, thanks for such a lovely tribute. Well done in your struggle with the wind too :-)

  • Great to see what you did Dave, although I could not see it live, I've watched it several times since.

  • Well done Dave!

You made me cry when I saw you standing there holding up the messages that I and Gary sent.

I was also touched when you explained what 381 ment to the crowds below - I will never forget you doing this.

    Thank you.

  • a good comment well made jacqui. you're right, absoluteley no use getting your calculator out if your drowning. unless it's one of those big inflatable ones you sometimes see.

  • Promote School Swimming in your area.

    It is a life skill.

It is no good being brilliant at Maths and English if you can't swim and drown.

The number of School Swimming lessons have dropped in our area by two thirds over the last fifteen years.
