About me My story

WOW

Never thought I would get a chance at this amazing opportunity.

I am planning to create 'A Statue's Eye View' a photographic gallery of an hour in the life of a statue -to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia.

The gallery will include a 360 panoramic image with help from Tom Mills of vrwebdesign.co.uk and still images which I will upload onto the website astatueseyeview.info (not live yet) with a view to selling the images to raise money for fibromyalgia-associationuk.org.

Please make a donation at

justgiving.com/fibro-on-the-plinth

and read my story to discover more about Fibromyalgia and how it affects not just the life of the sufferer but their family too.

THANK YOU

Look forward to meeting my neighbouring 'plinthers' and keeping in touch with what we are all up to.

  • Helen, please forgive me for being so insensitive, but as a fibromyalgia sufferer, also suffering from deep depression at the moment, I deeply regret that I am sometimes guilty of speaking my mind before I think of the consequences. I am usually very tactful, but my current state of mind has changed my personality. Please accept my most sincere apology, I now appreciate that travelling to London and doing what you did was no mean feat, and I salute you. I suffer alone, my doctor thinks I'm a nuisance, my family and friends think that because I look alright I am, and I am feeling at the end of my tether with it all. I am similar to you, I am 44 years of age, married for 23 years and have two teenage sons, and I relate to your story completely. Well done on your accomplishment, and please accept my apology. Take care, and I hope that you, like me, soon find a way out of this living hell by way of medical help or some other means, yet to be discovered ...

  • Julie - I am sorry you feel that way - what have you done to raise awareness?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I agree I could have done things differently - ensuring the banners were more visible is just one of them.

Being up on the plinth is a very strange experience and although it took a lot of arranging to get there and to do what I did I agree it could have been a lot better.

I have put together a website: www.astatueseyeview.info where there are links to Fibromyalgia Association UK and you can actually see the photos I took.

My plinth hour was actually for ME - it was something that I could do and enjoy even with Fibromyaglia - raising awareness was something I did alongside as I explain in My Story.

Julie - if you feel I did not do enough to raise awareness then please help me out and spread the word about my website and more importantly the FAMUK website and do feel free to contact me via the website.

    Helen

  • I have recently been diagnosed having fibomylagia.

I wish to know how it would be possible to prevent advancing my illness and pain.

thanks for supporting people who have this illness.

  • Well done, but what a waste of an opportunity to tell the world about fibromyalgia. This could have been a great way of raising awareness of the condition, but I've just sat through an hour's commentary of who you are photographing, saying hello to friends and family and generally doing no more than you could have done on the ground. The flags completely covered up the Fibromyalgia Association banner. You spent a lot of your time adjusting the tripod and camera to get a 360 degrees angle of Trafalgar Square, photographing musicians who had nothing to do with fibromyalgia. Poor old Patsy was doing more to raise awareness by sitting in her wheelchair whilst holding onto a fibromyalgia poster and apparently there were people on the ground distributing fibromyalgia leaflets. 52 minutes into the filming there is actually a plug for the fibromyalgia website - at last! Sorry, but this was such a good opportunity and was so disappointing. A wasted hour :(
