About me My story

I thought I was a closet exhibitionista but now I'm not so sure.. can't back out now though and I'm so excited to be part of this amazing project so here goes:

I'm enjoying the Swanage summer - morning swims, walking over Ballard Down, visits from friends and family, a pint at the Square & Compass...

The setting of the Fourth Plinth is so huge and impressive and we all look so small and insignificant - probably part of what this is all about but I need to find something (reasonably) dignified and something that represents me/humanity..

I have been thinking about this for weeks but whilst pottering in my local and wonderful garden centre inspiration struck! Gardening is a passion I share with so many "One & Anothers". Creative, relaxing, therapeutic - growing stuff is great...Holme for Gardens near Wareham have (bravely and generously) lent me a tree to topiarise and an umbrella for when it rains. A huge thankyou to them!!

Also, a chance to tell everyone about the fantastic RHS Campaign for School Gardening!

By 2012 the RHS hopes that 80% of UK primary schools will be providing their pupils with hands-on learning opportunities in school grounds to grow plants and garden sustainably - Have a look at www.rhs.org.uk/schoolgardening

  • susy: hi!!! that was really good. The snipping sounded satisfying!! Liked the throwing of the aeroplanes, that was a nice touch x

mark: performance art at its best - the best 1 hour online I have had for years!! Can you do a repeat performance when you come to Brighton next - we have quite a few bushes that need trimming. Much love xxxx

catherine:loved the whole thing outfit an'all - the zen of topiary xx

  • Well done! You did not need the umbrella! You looked a real professional-you could come to ours in Norfolk and help us. You looked as if you had a great time! Hope you are successful with the school project.

  • Listen carefully I will say zis only once...You were fabulous, fantastic, incredible and we are so glad we com home in time to see you!!

    Love

    Anne and sophie

  • Wonderful.

  • That was an enjoyable plinth hour watching you - and you timed it perfectly well, too!

    Cheers,

    @braincoffee

  • Jane,

I'm enjoying your moment. Wish I had some scones, clotted cream and jam to share with you right now! Thanks for not being a shouty dancing person.

  • With those shears I thought you were going to shear a sheep, or castrate a ram!

  • I can hear you; snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip.

  • That tree is a snip at any price :-)

  • Beware the middle of the night topiarist :-)

    Bonsai rules!

  • Just over 3 hours to go before the bush preening. Watching on the webcam a saxophonist huddled under an umbrella with the rain teeming down and strong winds threatening to blow her off the plinth - ideal topiary weather. Good luck
