I love Rome and I guess observing all those Roman Emperors along the Via Dei Fori Imperiali sparked my interest in being part of a living breathing piece of work by an Artist whose work I admire, and I felt this was an opportunity not to be missed.
I am looking forward to experiencing a perspective of Trafalgar Square very few people will have the chance to explore. I initially imagined my time on the plinth as one of silent contemplation, however, if a moment presents itself where it feels right to interact or respond I may do so. I have pondered ; is it about the individual, the collective ? Whether to express, observe, engage, detach ? I think this process will finally be revealed between 6am - 7am Sunday 16th August. A hearty breakfast afterwards I hope.
Retrospective 18th August 2009
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the plinth, which was made complete when only minutes into my own hour I discovered that I was to be followed 1 hour later by the man that I love. The joy I felt knowing Simon was having his own plinth experience while I was experiencing mine made the whole event truly unique and magical. I feel blessed to have had such good fortune showering down upon us and wish to thank the One and Other team present for making it possible and also for your kind hospitality.
