About me

I'm Civic Secretary, here in LIchfield, Staffordshire - that is to say I work at a desk most of the time and organise lots of events. I am married with 3 children (by the way I'm 49, not 46 - I wish!).

I am really interested in the arts and I like being creative.

Street art seems to me about exhibitionism, but I don't think that is what this is about, at least I hope not because I won't be any good at performance.

As I am only going to do this once in a life time, I want to do it for me and no one else. What I would like to do is record everything I can see whilst I'm there so that I will remember it forever. So I think what I will do is take a sketch pad and, if I can, and easel, definitely a camera. I hope it won't be too dark. I guess it may be boring for passers by - I imagine some participants will do wonderful performances. I would like to be able to compare notes with others after the event.

I am really excited and nervous - I wonder if my kids will think It's cool or that I have lost the plot?

  • Hi Kate , TodayI was just thinking how delighted John Quilliam would have been to have the manx flag flying on a plinth in trafalgar square next to his old comrade Nelson !! Such an impromptu gesture. Hope you had as much pleasure up there as we all did watching and just being there to share in such a wonderful event . congratulations and lots of love from us all xx

  • Well Done Aunty Kate!!! You looked great! Loved the waffling!!

Cant wait to see the sketches some time!

    xxx

  • What a brilliant experience. You make it seem like the most natural thing in the world to be doing - drawing from the fourth plinth!

    Alison (Lichfield)

  • wow Kate, that looked really high up on the plinth, and i love the drawings.

  • Hi Kate

People have lefts comments about the drawings, but I can't see them. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and you obviously drew a crowd (sorry)

    love

    Jonty xxx

  • This looks great.

I reckon you'll make the Manx papers!

    xx

  • Just been catching up on what happened on Friday - the chuntering commentary is brilliant! I wonder what all those other statues are saying up on their pedestals.

I felt really proud, and I was only watching - one of the really tiny people! x

  • You'll hate this Kate - you really brought a tear to my eye! I'm just so proud of you. Obviously a family trait the ability to rattle away to oneself no matter where or surrounded by who! You never cease to amaze me. Will watch again without skipping bits later on.

    Love you

    Ru x

  • Of course your kids think it's cool!!! And you know we are very proud of you!

I'm so glad you did it, and the drawings are awesome!

    Love you lots xxx

  • the IOM flag was from my family who came to see me. I didn't realise that I talk to myself so much - Gina I would love to meet up - Deidre, the lady before me was from Birmingham, we could meet with her too.

I have never been so nervous in my life. But I am glad I went through with it. THANK YOU MY FAMILY FOR COMING TO LONDON WITH ME. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. XX

  • Brilliant Kate ,I felt like I was there with you!

Loved the running commentary and observations, can't wait to see the drawings.

You should be very proud of yourself - thanks for letting us all share in this unique experience.x

  • I like the 'doing it for you' idea and I am sure your kids think it's cool and are very proud! Well done small married mum!

  • I enjoyed listening to you go through the process of your experience on the plinth. I hope you were satisfied with the drawings you were able to do.

  • Hi, Why Did you have a Manx flag?

Love from Gary (Isle of man)

  • I am an artist in California and was excited to see another artist drawing on the plinth! I was thinking that was what I might do as well, if I were a participant, but I didn't think of recording everything as you are doing. I get to mainly see everyone in the evening, night and early mornings, so this is a great project.

  • i agree with u , im due to go on the plinth late august at 1am . i also think it is a once in a lifetime performance , therefore i will be doing it for my self , not a performance as such .

  • Hi Kate

I was on at 1-2am this morning (17th July) and would be very pleased to meet up to compare notes. I live near Ashbourne so I'm not far away!

    All the best

    Gina

  • Is that an Isle of Man flag that KATED is

    flying on the plinth?

    (Friday 17th July, 9.00pm - 10.00pm)

Why, I wonder, as it says she's from Lichfield?

  • I love the way you are going to do it just for yourself. I'm on the plinth on the 23rd and the pressure to do something entertaining is not what this is all about is it?!

  • do it for you

    and thus

    be

    one of us
