About me My story

Monday 27th July. 6-7 am

My hour on the plinth will be spent doing something called Poi Poi, which is a performance art using a ball suspended from a length of flexible material held in the hand and swung in circular patterns. I am not claiming to be great at this but I have learnt through my drama group YAC and I love doing it. The only problem with this is that I couldn't do it for a whole hour as I think my arms would drop off!

I am going to make postcards of photos I have taken of my local area and bake buns, before my time on the plinth. Then in between Poi Poi I am going to give them to people walking by so they can have something to eat at 6-7 am (breakfast from the plinth) as well as see the area I come from

Throughout this I am going to try and raise as much money as possible for alzheimers society in memory of my grandad. www.justgiving.com/katie-hutchinson

I am not a person who is very extrovert, so this project isn't something I would naturally be drawn to. When I heard about it I thought it would be an interesting concept that humans are being considered as a form of art. I would also love being a part of an idea with just 2,400 people that could become a momentous occasion and hopefully a historic event.

I am 16 and have just finished my GSCE's. I have just found out that I am the youngest person so far!!!

  • Hi Katie. I've just enjoyed watching your hour and I realise that you'll still be stuck in t'smoke! Hope you've had a good day in London - did you meet any more Plinthers after the Coffee Shop?

  • Well done Katie...you must have pretty strong arms! for a whole hour! Such a shame I missed it (and the chocolate buns!) Great to see a little shot of Granny too! xx

  • I thought that was delightful! Having never heard of the Poi Poi before, didn't know what to expect, and it was lovely!!! No doubt, due to the major fact that you were so graceful. Well done!! A lovely piece of art!!!

  • Katie, you were fab. Well done. We really enjoyed watching you. Away you go girl! xx

  • Hi Katie,

really enjoyed watching you 'plinthing' you were FAB!

would love to have a poi poi lesson from you sometime, it looks good fun X X X

  • Its even greater watching it than i thought it would be, the flag was great, the whole pink theme, and the way you move with them, its a beautiful dance, and the whole dress sense is great, true Hebden Bridge - great energy! (had to laugh at you doing the flagpole though- sorry!). What an amazing thing to do, nice one Kates!

  • Very cool!

  • Finally got to see you hour on the plinth and I really enjoyed it. I think your use of the poi pois was really good because you seemed to fill the whole space and you were so good at going right up to the edges!!! You looked great

    well done xx

  • Well done Katie I think you were the best sooo far X

  • Well done Katie. I think you were so brave and you looked incredibly relaxed up there. Brilliant!

  • Katie - WOW! I've just found out that you are (or have just been) a Plinther. Congratulations. Will enjoy watching you doing your thing. x

  • Hi from Los Angeles. Good job! I have never seen Poi Poi done before. It looked like a lot of fun and a very good work out as well. I think you were very brave to do an hour on the plinth. Must say your choice of music was very enjoyable. Thanks and all the best to you.

    .

  • Good luck Katie, save us some buns,

  • I'll be able to watch live more easily as it is a comfortable 5pm for me here in New Zealand. Go Katie with the Poi Poi, which are a key part of traditional Maori dance here.

  • Have a great time Katie!! We'll watch you online! x

  • Well done you! - for being brave enough to do this. We think you are a star who will shine so bright on the day. Don't be nervous, just enjoy yourself - it will only happen once. XXX

  • You're the Angel of the North in the South. Have a great time. xx

  • Well done Kates! - for having the courage to do this. Make sure you take lots of Hebden baked buns as we don't want to see your arms drop off now do we? Good luck and enjoy it - you will only get to do it once.

  • Have fun tomorrow, Katie. Sorry we can't be there, hope all goes well [maybe take an umbrella]. We'll hook up the steam to the various tricky grey boxes, stick a coat hanger into the modem and watch you on the internet xx

  • Not much will entice me out of sleep before 6am but I'll definitely set my alarm and watch you live from the comfort of my warm bed! I'm sure you'll take London by storm with your home baking. Wishing you lots of luck and fun x

  • Good luck, Kates, enjoy it and don't eat all the buns yourself!! XX

  • wow sounds like a great idea, good luck and remember to enjoy it :) xx
