I enjoyed my experience of becoming a living example of public art on the fourth plinth. My bagpipes behaved themselves very well with the reeds sounding good and the beautiful architecture of Trafalgar Square providing fine acoustics. It was a priviledge to play in such a famous location. I managed to attract a small crowd of early risers from tourists to council workers as was appropriate with a spot beginning at 7am on Tuesday August 11th. I kept playing although there was a great tendency to stop and take in that beautiful view. I am also a visual artist who could have painted the fine scene. The weather was kind to me with golden sunlight reflecting off the National Gallery and a quiet breeze.
My son and his mum were dancing to some of my tunes and I was getting some enquiries asking if I was wearing anything under the kilt.
I felt very comfortable after about ten minutes getting used to the height and think the real me came out. I felt no pressure and felt the hour quickly escape my grasp.
A truly wonderful experience. Thank you to the organisers and my supporters.
I have managed to raise in excess of £1100 to date for Down's Syndrome Scotland.
