About me

After much careful thought I will be using my hour to highlight the unacceptable high levels of deaths involving cyclists within London by lorries, dangerous junctions, road conditions and the inadequate response to these issues by Boris and TFL.

22 Cyclists have died since Jan 2008 - 15 of which involved HGVs.

I have started a Facebook Group '4th Plinth Pedal Power' to encourage discussion and debate on this issue.

  • Excellent display and a great way to highlight a serious issue. Well done!

  • Great cause - sorry I could'nt be there to support in person. paul

  • Great visual display for a very important cause.

  • I watched you from start to finish yesterday with mum. We were moved by your performance watching you for the full hour. The image of you cycling on the plinth with the banners blowing in the breeze was haunting. I am very glad that we decided to come and watch the plinth that day as the image you created will stay in my mind for a long time. You managed to achieve an excellent promotion of an very important issue. Congratulations for an hour well spent.

    thank you

  • Watching the "build" was part of the show !

  • Very well done, Neil. A lot of work and thought went into your brilliant 'montage'. Hopefully those that can do something about the cause were impressed and that some further action results. Chapeau!.

  • excellent display for highlighting such an important issue... shame you only had an hour.

  • hello neil

    well done mate

just watched it on line sorry could not be there to see in real

    love

  • A great deal of work had evidentally gone into this 4th plinth project and it was carried out well by Neil (with only a few expletives!) But a very important message was well presented - well done!

  • Thank you Neil

A wonderfully visual way of highlighting such a horrific statistic.

    Great use of the plinth

  • fantastic hr. A real visual highlight, well done!.

  • As a member of the '4th Plinth Pedal Power' group I would like to thank Neil for the initiative and everyone that is giving us support; safe cycling in London is not a dream, it is our right!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant in form, message & in its execution. A perfect use of the space. Very powerful.

It is the best so far!

    Fabulously well done.

There needs to be a sustainable solution.

Roads should be a shared space & vehicle usage needs to be reduced drastically.

  • We liked the message and the performance

  • Brilliant presentation

    BRAVO !

    Andy

  • A very powerful message revealing one of the very many sad secrets of living (and dying) in London.

    Well done!

  • great idea, this concept gets better by the day, great camera angles too! well done

  • I have just joined the Facebook Group. Good news at 1.35 there are now 23 more members. One death is too many. Thank you.

  • The highlighting of cyclists deaths is a brilliant idea.

It also the most artistic display I have seen so far

  • Beautiful, beautiful imagery - you have got the message across in a very powerful way.

  • Very impressive kit, but by the time you've put all that up won't it be time to come down again?

Remembering all those cyclists who lost their lives in London.

    Jenny

  • Brilliantly thought out - great use of the time and space and visual too.

  • Very moving display.

  • Wonderful presentation - like something from Kurosawa. I am on the plinth in August but will not be doing anything so visual. Actually I will just be taking photographs. But I admire all those plinthers that really focus and prepare something like this.

  • Well done Neil! This issue is a scandal. And it looks fantastic.

  • admirable and important cause - but it's taking so lng to set up. 20 minutes and not done yet. it'll be up for 10 minutes then he'll have to start dismantling it.

The signs around the plinth, the white bike and the skeleton suit make the point vivdly. though i do admire and honour the desire to acknowledge each individual.

  • Hi Neil ! Couldn't install the adobe thingy to view you live but well done and you have my support.

    Love and kisses

  • Thank you for doing this. One death is too many.

  • Good man!! - I nearly got side swiped by an elderly lady coming out of a side road on my way home today - and I got the feeling if she had children she'd never have let them out on the roads on bikes because they are far too dangerous!! - got to watch out for those "dangerous roads"!!

    Good luck!

  • Attitudes have to change on both sides. More people are cycling. It's brilliant. I'm a regular driver in London too. (not the same thrill but I love driving too.) There is no point just being angry at each other. We need to find safer ways for cyclists to ride round London.

  • For every 100 cars driving with faulty brakes lights there are 16 driving using mobile phone. Then there are 48 cyclists riding on the pavement, three on the phone, 4 going up one-ways the wrong way and 7 going through red lights. Everyone should be examined in the Highway Code. What are the parents, the schools and the police doing? There are proportionately few cyclists on the road. I've ridden for 50 years including 1200 miles to Helsinki in 10 days.

Cyclists should allowed on pavements like in Finland & cars turning left should have to give way to pedestrians & cyclists

You are too right. UK should have a law like the Dutch: the cyclist has always 1st right and in accidents the car is always guilty.
