l was born in London 58 years ago and, in 2005, l was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. l was a solicitor at the firm of Burley & Geach for 29 years but had to retire in June 2006 and since then l have had the freedom to indulge my many interests which include watching cricket, going to the cinema, writing and taking photographs. l am also collaborating with a number of different photographers on an artistic venture, which examines my life at this time, and l am shortly arranging an exhibition of the photographs which have arisen from the project. l am an incredibly happy man, happier than l have ever been before. Ironically, Parkinson's disease has given me a new lease of life. l have a beautiful, loving wife and two gorgeous children. l feel very blessed.
My original idea was to stand on the plinth and express my freedom and the freedom of the individual. Shortly after being accepted for the plinth, I bought the new album by Madness, “The Liberty of Norton Folgate”, which must be one of the best albums released by this or any other band within the last ten years. With the permission of the band, I will be playing tracks from the album, which explores the history of the richness and diversity of the people who have lived and are now living in London and which is completely in tune with my feelings for this wonderful City. It has sumptuous melodies, great rhythms and nutty humour and is really all about freedom, something which I have rediscovered over the last few years.
So, I would like to join with The Magnificent Seven in asking you to walk down to, float down to or just catch the bus to Trafalgar Square and dance to some cool tunes.
And don’t forget…..
……..in weather like this, you need a coat, a nice warm hat....
I am being supported on the day by The Parkinson's Disease Society, a wonderful charity who have been very supportive to me and others with the disease - if you would like to make a donation to the Society please go to http://www.justgiving.com/Tim-Andrews-oneandother
