About me My story

l was born in London 58 years ago and, in 2005, l was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. l was a solicitor at the firm of Burley & Geach for 29 years but had to retire in June 2006 and since then l have had the freedom to indulge my many interests which include watching cricket, going to the cinema, writing and taking photographs. l am also collaborating with a number of different photographers on an artistic venture, which examines my life at this time, and l am shortly arranging an exhibition of the photographs which have arisen from the project. l am an incredibly happy man, happier than l have ever been before. Ironically, Parkinson's disease has given me a new lease of life. l have a beautiful, loving wife and two gorgeous children. l feel very blessed.

My original idea was to stand on the plinth and express my freedom and the freedom of the individual. Shortly after being accepted for the plinth, I bought the new album by Madness, “The Liberty of Norton Folgate”, which must be one of the best albums released by this or any other band within the last ten years. With the permission of the band, I will be playing tracks from the album, which explores the history of the richness and diversity of the people who have lived and are now living in London and which is completely in tune with my feelings for this wonderful City. It has sumptuous melodies, great rhythms and nutty humour and is really all about freedom, something which I have rediscovered over the last few years.

So, I would like to join with The Magnificent Seven in asking you to walk down to, float down to or just catch the bus to Trafalgar Square and dance to some cool tunes.

And don’t forget…..

……..in weather like this, you need a coat, a nice warm hat....

I am being supported on the day by The Parkinson's Disease Society, a wonderful charity who have been very supportive to me and others with the disease - if you would like to make a donation to the Society please go to http://www.justgiving.com/Tim-Andrews-oneandother

  • Hi Timmy,

Grant just sent me the link to this. I am amazed, awestruck and totally thrilled with what you did! You are an inspiration to us all. I salute you and your incredible spirit.

I'd love to come back to your house next time I'm in England and eat Scotch eggs with you, Jane, Sally and Grant. It's too bad my last visit to your house ending up with me having a funny turn and having to be rushed to the hospital. All is well now. God bless the National Health.

    Lots of love,

    Shirley

  • So true Tim so true, I am in such full admiration for you and yours. Penny. XXX

  • Tim, I am so glad I followed the link you provided at Mike's site. I think you are a wonderful person. Wishing you all the best in everything you do. Enjoy life!

  • Thank you all for the lovely messages - it was an amazing experience.

Two small things - Jasper, "ONE of the best albums" but obviously all entitled to our own opinion and Patrick, l was so scared that l forgot having rehearsed very carefully - really sorry.

  • Just to add you really made me smile :-))))))))

  • Fantastic and I am so very glad you are living life to the full x

  • What an amazing number of responses. It obviously went very very well. We were sorry to have missed it - but I'm sure this is not the last event you will ever get involved with. I am expecting more more more !!!. Whats next ?(Like above - I found I couldn't donate on-line)

  • You are wonderful! Such a shame we missed it live. Love the music. Hope to see you soon. xx

  • We were sad not to have been able to come down to London and support you on the day, Tim. However, we did think about you at various times during the day and wondered how you were getting on and have since watched you on-line. Glad to see that your dress sense has improved since your B&G days!!!

Hope you raised oodles of cash and helped to further raise the profile of PDS.

    Buster & Sarah x

  • Tim I watched you on Saturday and was rootiong for you. I think you were very brave and I am sending a big hug. The internet is great but not sure how it is on delivering hugs! I got quite emotional watching but felt priviledged to have a friend who had the b's to do somethink like that. Looks like you have raised lots of £ for a very good cause. I hope you raise more after the event.

Lots of love to you and you and to Jane. Lin xx

  • Tim, you were fantastic! Do Madness know what a star you are? Are they bringing out a new video? Well done from all of us. Jan Bern and JamesXXX

  • Loved your hour wish i was gonna be as great, but i will be very boring

  • Brilliant, great fun watching you. Tried to donate with the web address you gave but it wouldn't recognise it.
