I heard about the project on the Vanessa Feltz show on Radion London and expressed an interest almost straight away; I loved visiting Another Place and thought that Gormley's idea was/is inspired. To be honest I really didn't think that I would have a chance in hell and was very excited when I recieved the email saying I had been given a slot. Then horror...I don't have internet access at home and thought that maybe the deadline for accepting had long passed by! Luckily I am able to take part and I must think long and hard about what I could or should do with my hour. As an English teacher it is possible that I may use the time to write while I am on the plinth but as an (aspiring) artist maybe I should paint. My work is abstract so whatever I produce will be shapes, colours and textures rather than a true representation of what I see before me. The fact that I will be a living piece of art excites me as does the height of the plinth as I am only 5ft tall.
Trafalgar Square has a special place in my heart for a number of reasons which makes participating all the more special; childhood memories spent climbing the lions and feeding pigeons; the National and National Portrait Galleries providing inspiration; seeing Nelson Mandela when he visited Britain after becoming President of South Africa...
My hour will be a miniscule part in the history of Trafalgar Square but one that makes me very proud indeed!
