What a fantastic, liberating place to read for an hour.
I work in a public library and am passionate about books and reading. I'd like to spend part of my time on the plinth doing a storytime for children (and adults!) and reading a few poems. Hopefully the radio microphones will enable the storytime to be picked up by anyone watching the live feed. I'll also spend part of the time simply reading, quietly. Reading a book is still the most, subversive, outrageous, exciting thing anyone could ever do. Books are mad, bad and dangerous - that's why people try to burn them. I think books are under a bit of pressure at the moment, people try to say that they're somehow not relevant in the age of the internet. They're wrong. And an hour on the plinth is a perfect opportunity to say so. But what to read, ah that's the question. Any suggestions ....?
