Going up a man, coming down a woman, suggesting other options inbetween and beyond.
I intend to make the hour an extension of my own artistic endeavours which explore gender, sexuality and subjectivity as unnatural constructions. I am currently planning a metamorphosis of gender, from male to female using costume and masquerade. I will do this in an attempt to demonstrate the ease with which each socially ascribed, hetero-normative gender can be performed, enacted and taken on irrespective of the biology beneath. The aim is an ongoing attempt to reveal the unfixity and falsity of our gendered subjectivity that we so utterly believe is the true essence of who we are. Further aims are to estrange the viewer from their notions of self and engender an exploration, possibly fruitless, probably impossible, into what we can be beneath the constructions dominant hegemonies employ to instigate social control; constructions we readily and blindly accept and perpetuate as though there were no other ontological possibilities.
