On 4th January 2009 I decided to start training for the 2012 Olympics. The challenge is simple; to discover my limits. I'm realistic, but I also realise that to achieve great things, we need great goals.
When I started my challenge, I was an average 30 year old, with a desk job, probably over eats a little and under exercises a lot. I'm not too dissimilar to many other people in the UK. I wanted to see how far I can get in my chosen sport, triathlon.
Since starting my challenge, I have had some great successes such as learning 1500m front crawl, getting onto a bike for the first time since being run over and getting my running back up to scratch. But there have been significant challenges also, the death of my Grandad hit me hard, as well as setting up my own business. It's not been easy.
My times are still way below where they need to be and I have a long long way to go, but just like climbing the Worlds highest mountain, I won't be deterred by the size of the challenge.
I think the One & Other concept is great and being part of it I hope to add energy and to spread my positive message to other people... that sport is about participation, no matter what your level. And I want to find out something which eludes most of us... my limits.
What will I be doing on the plinth? Well 1200 - 1300 is a training time for me, so I will be doing exercise! I plan to ride 25 miles in 1 hour, without falling off... and no stabilizers!
