My nickname in the local community of Mansfield (Notts) is 'Mrs Hook-a-Duck'.
This is because I do a Hook-a-Duck stall to raise funds for the Registered Charity (no 1104002) that I founded fifteen years ago.
Please see our Website for further details; https://www.yvettesbook.com
On Sunday 19th July at 4pm, I'm going to wear a sandwich board on the Plinth saying;
"Please could you make a donation to our Registered Charity?
Buy a Duck for £5!
Thank you x
God Bless the Queen"
At my feet I'll have 200 small plastic ducks that I will be selling on the day to passers-by and afterwards via our Website and E-Bay For Charity.
My Husband Tony, 20-year-old son David and his girlfriend Natalie Swain will also be shaking a collecting bucket at the bottom of the Plinth.
Our local media have already been very supportive of our endeavours. This was in the Nottingham Evening Post;
http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/homenews/Mum-son-set-Trafalgar-Square-statue-double/article-1153642-detail/article.html
also, whilst I'm up there I'll be making a blog for BBC Radio Nottingham.
Over the years we've done a lot of unusual fund-raising events which has captured the attention of our very supportive local newspapers The Chad, Nottingham Evening Post, Observer and Recorder.
Obviously the more quirky the ideas, the more attention we attract and therefore raise more money.
In the past I've;
Held Mansfield's first Christmas Fayre - one May, complete with Santa, Christmas Trees and trimmings.
Held a Dogs & Human's Pet Show.
Had our lovely local M.P. Alan Meale serving in McDonald's (wearing their uniform for his shift) and collecting from customers on our behalf.
Had Dame Barbara Cartland judging a ‘Love Is’ Competition,
Had Graham Norton calling the Bingo for our Annual Charity Concert,
Had my husband Tony sporting half a beard for a month,
Listened to Des O’Connor's music for 24-hours,
Listened to Tommy Steele's music for 24-hours,
Listened to Howard Keel’s music for 24-hours,
And held a 'Spaghetti-a-Thon' - amongst other events.
Last year, as part of 'National Pet Month' I did a ‘Charity Bingo-a-Thon’ - playing Bingo on t'Internet for 24-hours - and not winning a single penny!
My slot on the Plinth seems to have been fated. We were due to be in London on 18th July anyway as we had tickets to see Michael Jackson, bless him.
I'm really looking forward to it and I just hope the wind doesn't get behind my five foot notice board and I hurtle to my death, my guts splattered up Nelson's Column.
At least it'll be on the News at Ten, which I suppose would result in more donations to my Charity for the sympathy vote!
