I am raising awareness and sponsorship for the work of the charity Epilepsy Bereaved (www.sudep.org). Coincidentally, there is another plinther who is also raising money for Epilepsy Bereaved.
20 years ago, my older sister Catherine died from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) at age 29.
Plinths remember and celebrate lives, so this seems a particularly appropriate way to remember her and all the other loved ones who die from epilepsy, usually very young.
3 people die each day, in the UK alone, from Epilepsy related deaths: up to 40% of these deaths could be prevented with improved access to specialist epilepsy care services and improved information provision about risk.Epilepsy Bereaved support people bereaved by epilepsy and raise awareness, thereby reducing risk.
Another bonus for me is that my mum has been a fan of Antony Gormley ever since she saw his 'Field of Dreams' and has travelled to see all his public art works since
