About me

I am so pleased to be standing alongside Lord Nelson. This is a fantastic opportunity and one I will never forget. This is in memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and my late partner Marion.

Watch out : The guy using the alias " Real Captain John" on twitter is not me

The angel of the night... John L

    Best,

  • Hi John,

I have watched One & Other here and there from N.Y.C. and have seen you on camera so often that I think I, like others, feel like I know you just a bit. I finally got around to searching for your hour after I saw you with Olga last night(and the map making guy). It was not easy to find your hour but it was worth the search & I loved your hour & what you did with it.

I think you have been wonderfully devoted to this piece of art and to all the folks that have gone up there for their hour in art history. By being there, you become a part of each hours art and you always add something unique and all your own. After last night, when you stood by the plinth for Olga's hour an idea came to my mind. I know you very much like to call yourself the captain but I think you are also something else-something just as special-you might just be the guardian angel of the plinth. Especially when it is last at night and a plinther is all alone. That is when you seem to be there to support whomever is on the plinth and make sure they are not alone.

I am so used to seeing you there by the foot of the plinth that I think I will miss not seeing you, when all is over.

I bet others feel the same way. I have a suggestion: You need to start a "Captain John of the plinth fan club". The easiest way to do this is to create a (free) blog. Then we can all keep in touch with you and follow you as you go about life, after the plinth. You could post about Diana, about what the plinth looks like once One & Other ends & about all sorts of other, wonderful things.

If I lived in your neck of the woods I would come to Trafalgar Square to help you make a blog-it is so easy!(and free-a very good point...) But since I am stuck in N.Y. with no prospect of a nice trip your way any time soon I am going to suggest some of your dear friends at One & other help you out. I think it would be a nice way to keep us world wide plinth supporters and followers connected.

    My very best to you!

    Gina

  • Wow...look how many people you made turn their heads to look at you!

Fantastic to see someone representing something important to them and brilliant to see someone who is both proud of Britain and has a sense of humour.

You are seriously magic. I was in a bad mood but you lifted my spirits - my jaw hurt after smiling so much. You are so charismatic that you can only bring good things to anyone that meets you. What a character. On my next visit to the Uk, I hope to see you - as a portrait in the gallery behind where you did this performance.

    All the best John xo
