About me

Art thas been with me through teaching it for 33 years in Secondary education. To visit the David in Florence to seeng the Angel in Newcastle to being on the RNLI Rescue Hovercraft at New Brighton and using the Gormley statues at Crosby as a testing mark for RNLI Hovercraft manouver skills( I was a RNLI Hovercraft Commander and Pilot) so Gormley has affected my life through remembering where his sculpters are at high tide so I did not crash into one of them when attempting rescues. So avoiding landing on a Gormley through accident in the past, it will now it be nice to be landing on a Gormley through choice. What I plan to do is in process, one idea is to mimic sculpure poses of the past eg The thinker, The David, The Kiss, but I must admit it is an ongoing process with lots of people throwing in ideas and it might come to an intellectual raffle draw of people ideas.

  • Well done Mr B! Would have loved to have been there to heckle...I mean take part in your lesson one more time. It definitely brought back some good memories. Enjoy your retirement, you have certainly earned it.

  • You mean I looked that old when I was that young? Thanks Paula. I taught many Paulas but one in particular stood out and gave me a few silver hairs, I refered to her at home as 'our Paula' when I spoke to the family because I saw her as often during the day as my kids. Was it you? You made me smile inside if it was you with our daily jousts.

  • Well done Sir!!!!!!!!!! Haven't seen you for 21 years and you haven't changed one bit :D

  • Thanks Wendy, quiet is only good for the grave and a hangover.

  • Hi Angela, yes I was that art student.

  • Only a slight overstatement Em, this year SJP got to the final of the Times Ed School of the year in 2 categories!! Due in part to the sheer hard work of staff and pupils, also the efforts of inspiring teachers like John Badger. Newly retired, he is fondly remembered by staff as well as former pupils, who enlivened most morning briefings and staff meetings with his acerbic observations and one liners!!! Its a lot quieter without you John!!

  • Hi, Angela W, sorry for delay been roaming in Rome. Yes I was at Foundation then and remember my time there with a smile, remember the Albert Dock project? My, hasn't Maurice Cockerill (spelling?) done well, he has changed his style more often than I change my socks (which is often).

Thanks Suzanne, Terry and David, they were good times and I had some great laughs and met many brilliant and special people.

  • i enjoyed your art class on the plinth - were you on Liverpool Foundation 70 / 71 by any chance???

  • Well done Mr.B, that took me back 32 years, that was my very first art lesson.... minus the fury badger..lol. It was a great school, I made the best friends there and took away so much, I still use principles from your classes in my photography.

Thanks for everything you gave me for my trip through life Mr.Badger.

  • Mr badger, one teacher and half, you was great remember ya gave me a rollicking about my boxing or footie in my last year as i wouldnt go to detention but then you made me go to yours, but you made sense to me lol ,hope you well dave miller

  • OMG I have just gone back to school!!! Loved Mr Badger he was one in a million..straight down the line and you knew where you stood (mainly in the corridor!!) Remember getting into trouble with him for smoking outside the school gate he made a pledge to stop smoking if I did??? Wonder if he kept to it?? I never did :(

What a truely ironic way to end his teaching career, he taugh art now he is art, but we already knew that.

    Very best of luck!!!!

  • Thank you for your comments but remember you are artists I try to open the door and then it is up to you to be brave enough to step through. Emily you are there I am there! Enough said. YO! I teach Danny J! Monica you are the legend I am just part of the story. Ceri, remember when you visit a gallery be Dr. Who and imagine you are sitting in the studio watching the Artist paint, visit Florence I love it there. Excellent job Ms.Ceri...Madam.

  • "The greatest college in Britain" bit of an overstatement there Sir!

  • He never taught me art....I wish he had as I wouldn't have had to wait so long to discover the artist within!

You are one of the few people in my life who I really think is a legend! Thanks for being you Sir......you were a true educational masterpiece for our school

  • Mr badger ! he teaches me ! lol

  • Yay. They fixed this archive.

I didn't like this one at first but soon grew to love it. He was informative, amusing and he reminded me I love art and should start visiting galleries again.

I have watched many plinth hours over the 3 and a bit weeks so far and, while there have been some great ones, John Badger's is still my favourite. Now the archive is fixed, I'm about to watch it again and will show it to others later too.

    Excellent job, Mr Badger... Sir

Wasn't sure at first but you grew on me and I ended up absolutely loving your hour. Your retirement will be a great loss to teaching. You reminded me I love art and that it's been too long since I went to a gallery. You were informative and amusing; best plinther yet
