About me My story

OK, the final idea is ready. Please visit my new plinth web site at http://www.plinthipaul.co.uk/ for details of what I'm planning and more importantly how you can contribute ideas and even perhaps win a prize!

The rest of this profile below is just what I originally wrote, stored below for posterity!

________________________________________________________________

South-east Londoner who loves London, modern art and free open-air street events - so I'm rather looking forward to this. Now I just need to decide what I'm going to do up there.

I met my wife online nearly a decade ago, before it was fashionable ;), so given the huge role the internet has played in my life for over a decade, and is playing in others' lives more and more, I think it's pretty likely I'll be going online from the plinth. I've got a Twitter account ready to use on the day - http://twitter.com/PlinthiPaul - and will be following the #oneandother hashtag on the day to see what people are saying and join in the conversation.

I'm a keen - but amateur - photographer. My wife and I have been doing a project alternately taking one photo per day of our lives since 1 January 2009; she went first, so it's my turn to take one on 18 August, when I'm on the plinth. This may inspire some further ideas for plinth activity, although I'm not quite sure what, yet.

I'm also a big fan of giraffes, which I think have been underrepresented for too long on plinths in favour of their distant, equine cousins, horses, so I'll be trying to do my bit to rectify this imbalance too.

Watch this space to see how my ideas develop. (Hitting Refresh/Reload from time to time while watching the space will help.)

  • This was a great hour, really good use of the time and space. Very creative and funny.

  • That was absolutely brilliant - my cheeks hurt from smiling so much

  • Yes Paul it is I, who sang "Throw it out the window" and I did take your twitter comment as a compliment. Thank you. In fact I have quoted it on many occasion. I am now on twitter as alectheplinth but am confused how to use it. If you are in contact with Zoefrombrussels would you please thank her too on my behalf for her kind comments

  • Hi everyone, thank you all for your kind comments, they're all very nice and I've been meaning to say thanks for ages! :)

Alec - I do a lot of tweeting but that phrasing sticks in my mind from a few weeks ago - did I say you were either a comedy genius or a total incompetent? I meant it in the nicest possible way and I'm sure I was coming down on the side of the comedy genius by the end :)

Also, are you the one who sang the "threw it out the window" nursery rhyme variant songs? I'd never heard of that before but since seeing it I get it my head all the time and found the whole thing most amusing. So congratulations if that was you :) (My wife may disagree, I'm not sure she's quite so keen on me singing it... ;) )

  • He's either a scientific genius or a total incompentent :)

    Thanks for your twitter comments
